Travel Diary: Trip to Berlin #2

Written by Jiny on .

Hellooooo my dear lovelies!

Hope you’re all doing good. It seems like spring is not coming yet.. We had few days with some beautiful and gleaming spring-like weather, but now it’s been raining for like a week. OMG! Hopefully spring is coming in April, because we all know how awesome April is! ^_^

I’ve writing about my trip to Berlin, and decided to write a post on each single day. This time I’m going to tell you guys about my 3rd day in Berlin, so here we go! ;)

The 3rd day started off a bit hushed, and it was actually after our breakfast that we decided to visit the Museum Island on that day. We took the S-Bahn once again from our hotel to Hackesher Markt, and walked down the streets to the Museum Island. This is actually the oldest ensemble of museums in Berlin, and includes the 5 museums below:

  • Pergamon Museum
  • Bode Museum
  • Neues Museum
  • Altes Museum
  • Alte Nationalgalerie

We actually bought our tickets for the whole ensemble (18€ each), and we hoped we could be able to visit at least 2 or 3 of them. But seriously, each museum has a huge space, and you get so exhausted. We only visited the Pergamon Museum and Neues Museum – because I really HAD to see the bust of Nefertiti, and I did so! Unfortunately, you’re not allowed to take any pictures of her, and I was a bit sad about it. Anyway, we still enjoyed our visit, and I’m sure I’ll definitely go there once again and visit the museums, maybe spend 2 or 3 days on it.

Both Pergamon and Neues Museum were interesting, but I must say that I was impressed by the Pergamon Museum. It is also the most frequently visited museum in Berlin, which I totally understand. It has a VERY beautiful collection of classical treasures and tremendous reconstructions of old archaeological buildings, that include the Pergamon Altar of Zeus, Mshatta façade and much more. I was so impressed and speechless. The Pergamon Museum also include a section of Islamic Art, and this was indeed beautiful too.

The Neues Museum holds old Egyptian treasures and papyrus scripts, and collections from the Museum of Pre-History and Early History antiques. This was also very interesting, as I’m a huge lover of classical Egyptian culture and history. Seeing the bust of Nefertiti was seriously the highlight of that day.

After visiting these two museums, we were so exhausted, that we decided to go home. In addition, we ate our dinner at the hotel, followed with some delicious dessert :)
